Think you have ADHD?
TAKE THE TEST
ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder) is a common
disorder which often persists from childhood into adulthood.
However, it is also a very treatable condition which can be
life-changing with the right care.
Dr Joe Johnson completed his higher training in General Adult Psychiatry
at the University of Liverpool and has been working as a Consultant Psychiatrist
in NHS since 2005. He set up one of the first Adult ADHD clinics
in the Northwest of England in 2008 and has since been heading the service.
For well over a decade he has devoted his time to training and raising awareness
about ADHD in adults. He has delivered ADHD training programmes
to a variety of professionals including GPs, psychiatrists, nurses, probation officers
and other practitioners working in mental health.
He has been invited to speak at a number of national and international conferences
and has participated in multi-centre research trials in ADHD.
He has been actively involved in teaching and training and has been an examiner
for the MRCPsych exams for several years. Dr Johnson is the Northwest lead for the national organisation,
UKAAN (UK Adult ADHD Network), he is on the UKAAN Training Committee
and is on the advisory board of the ADHD Foundation, a charitable organisation.
Assessments will be completed at pre-arranged out-patient or virtual appointments. A full initial assessment usually takes 2-3 hours, and consists of a general mental health assessment and assessment of ADHD symptoms. It also includes a review of medical records, obtaining relevant history from other sources and preparation of a full report.
If an ADHD diagnosis is confirmed, then treatment options will be discussed and finalised in consultation with the patient. It is likely that treatment will reduce impairment and improve the person’s quality of life.
